During the process of making paintings it’s easy to forget the one goal, which is to make something beautiful. My Abstract paintings are about palette, feeling, movement and composition and not necessarily in that order. If I choose dark notes they are generally accents unless it is a ground to accentuate the brights. If my mood is heavy going in it’s best to keep the paintings bright and I can verify that color and action can turn a mood around.
If I were buying a painting, what would it be? This is the question I should but seldom if ever ask myself as an artist. Newsflash…It is so basic. Putting aside all the “feelings” that go into artwork, It is for SALE. Over the years I have become more commercial regarding promoting and thinking about process but this one crucial question has eluded me. What would I want to buy. Wow that may be a game changer. I know what work appeals to me. I love what I am making but I’m not sure if I am my market. My prime work is something that I would be interested in. Sadly, being realistic not all work is going to be your best but with that said there is someone for everything, eventually. Okay, to be continued.
